FU Language schools

1. Who is eligible for accommodation in an F+U hall of residence?

Only F+U Academy of Languages students who booked an intensive course of at least 20 teaching hours a week are eligible for accommodation. Learners studying at another F+U educational institution are also eligible for accommodation, provided that places are available. Students enrolled in evening course and weekend courses and those who are not F+U students are generally not eligible for accommodation, except when rooms are still available and would otherwise stay empty.

2. For how long can I rent a room in an F+U hall of residence?

The room may only be rented for the duration of your F+U language or training course. Moving in before the start of the course or moving out after the end of the course is permitted only in very few exceptional circumstances, provided that the room Is available and only against payment of the weekly rent of the room. You should enquire about the availability well ahead of planning your arrival by contacting the accommodation department at the language school.

3. For how long should I rent a room in an F+U hall of residence?

We strongly recommend our language students arriving from abroad to book accommodation from the very outset and for the entire duration of their language course. Applications to extend the rental period of your room are possible later on as well. However, please note that it might be possible that the room has already been booked by another customer, which results in the inconvenience of having to move to another hall of residence and/or category.

If you are renting the room on a long-term basis, you are welcome to arrange instalment payments with our school.

4. Room extensions

Applications to extend the rental period must be made four weeks in advance of the contract’s expiry. Application received less than 14 days before contract expiry are subject to a processing fee of 50€. F+U Academy of Languages at no time guarantees the extension of a room’s rental period, as the availability of our rooms depends on our bookings. We do not reserve rooms without a valid booking.

5. Room cancelations

If the contract parties conclude a rental contract for a fixed term, the earlier ordinary cancellation of the rental contract is generally excluded (§ 542 II BGB - German Civil Code). However, as a gesture of goodwill we permit the cancellation of the rental contract with a notice period of four full weeks (starting from the next Saturday) and a with cancelation fee of 75€. Notice of the cancellation must be submitted in writing during the opening hours of the Accommodation Department. If cancellation is confirmed by F+U, rent prepaid for the period after the amended contract expiry will be refunded.

6. How do the residence categories differ?

There are no rigid criteria that determine whether an accommodation belongs to one category or another. Each of our halls of residence is individually evaluated based on various factors, such as:

  • Rental price/standard of surrounding residential area
  • Furnishing of communal areas (kitchen, dining area,
    living room, etc.)
  • Year of construction or most recent renovation
  • Number of people sharing the kitchen and/or
  • Proximity to the school

It is not always possible to weigh each factor equally in all cases. A list of our available rooms by category can be found here.

7. Am I able to book a specific hall of residence?

Booking a room means booking a specific category of the residence only. We can only guarantee the allocation of a specific residence for a one-time one-off supplement of €200 (female-only residence € 350) - subject to room availability at the time of booking.

8. What happens if my arrival is postponed?

Should your arrival be postponed, e.g. due to a delay in issuing a visa, and if the accommodation is booked to capacity, the originally booked room/residence category can no longer be guaranteed. In this case we reserve the right to offer accommodation in another hall of residence and/or residence category.

The price difference resulting from a lower category and the guarantee fee (where applicable) will be fully refunded. There is no extra charge if an upgrade is necessary! An exception of this regulation can only be made, if the rent for the booked room is payed starting from the originally planned arrival date.

9. When will I receive the information of my accommodation?

1-2 weeks before arrival. We want to guarantee maximum booking flexibility for our customers and the largest possible variety of rooms. That is why we normally send the confirmation of your specific accommodation 1-2 weeks before your arrival per E-Mail (details of accommodation plus check-in information).
